Eaton House was built in 1904 for Congressman Charles Aubrey Eaton and his family. The Eaton family originally lived on the north side of Valley Road but later built another house on the south side of Valley Road so their grandchildren wouldn't have to run across that busy street for a cookie or story or whatever else they needed.
The property at 201-217 Valley Road came to be known as Sunbright Farm. It was later subdivided into multiple plots and sold.
Congressman Eaton lived with his family at Eaton House from 1926 until his death in 1953.
Memorabilia from Charles Eaton is avail for vviw on the Eaton Room of the Texier House Museum. Also on display are the effects of Captain ? Parlin, Mr Eaton’s Father-in-law, who served as a commanding officer of one of the 4 Negro divisions on the Civil War. Of particular interest is a 24 page hand-written diary written by Captain Parlin.
Mr Eaton represented the NJ 07th District in the House of representative from 19?? to 19??. Eaton served Secretary of State for President Eisenhower. He Signed the U.N. Charter in 1948 as a US delegate.
