Founded in 1847 on Planfield Avenue, where the cemetery is now located, and serving area Catholics from what are now the communities of Plainfield, North Plainfield, Westfield, Scotch Plains, Stirling, Summit, Murray Hill, New Providence, Basking Ridge, Myersville and others.
A few years later the church bought a two-story colonial house on the corner of Mountain Boulevard and Brookdale Rd.
